Pending Orders in MetaTrader 4


In “Market Execution”, orders are executed immediately in the market and executed at market price.

“Pending Order” allow you to place an order which will be executed in the future when the price reaches a predefined level, at your preference.

When placing a new order, you can change the Type to “Pending Order”.

After changing the Type to Pending Order, you will be given 4 types of pending order:

  • Buy Limit
  • Sell Limit
  • Buy Stop
  • Sell Stop

Attention: Trading forex and contracts for differences on margin carries a high level of risk, and may not be suitable for all investors.

Buy Limit

Buy limit place a buy order when the future Ask price is equal to the predefined value. The buy limit price should be lower than the current price.

Traders usually place a buy limit order when they anticipate price of underlying asset would fall to a certain level, then increase.

Buy Stop

Buy stop place a buy order when the future Ask price is equal to the predefined value. The buy stop price should be higher than the current price.

Traders usually place buy a stop order when they anticipate price of underlying asset would rise to a certain level, then continue to increase.

Sell Limit

Sell limit place a sell order when the future Bid price is equal to the predefined value. The sell limit price should be higher than the current price.

Traders usually place sell limit order when they anticipate price of underlying asset would rise to a certain level, then decrease.

Sell Stop

Sell stop place a sell order when the future Bid price is equal to the predefined value. The sell stop price should be lower than the current price.

Traders usually place sell limit order when they anticipate price of underlying asset would rise to a certain level, then decrease.
